music is just so powerful the way it affects our mind. For some of us, a particular song could take us back to the exact moment we knew we were in love. Certain songs can cement important events, both happy and sad into our memories as we try to get and stay healthy. It’s important we do everything we can to reduce stress, and that includes being active, eating, healthy, meditating, laughing more, spending time with family and friends, getting enough sleep and including music in our lives.

Listening to or playing music is such a good stress reliever. It provides a mental distraction, it reduces muscle tension and decreases stress hormones. That’s gotta be good, right? Music is a significant part of the anchor point. Positive imagery sessions because it helps listeners to be still and relaxed, discharging the physical effects of stress. If you go for a massage, most of those sessions have music to help you relax and unwind so that you’re able to get the maximum effect from the massage. Faster music can make you feel more alert and concentrate better, faster. More upbeat music can make you feel more optimistic and positive about life. Slower tempo music can soothe your mind, relax your muscles and release stress. I know of an individual who was battling cancer. She listens to this podcast and she’s older like us. She decided to learn to play the piano right there in the middle of a life and death battle with cancer.

Never played any kind of musical instrument in her entire life. She told me learning to play the piano and excused the pun here. Her learning to play the piano was instrumental and winning her life and death battle with cancer music. What a powerful health improvement tool. Listening to music before you go to sleep at night, it quiets your mind and helps you fall asleep. We know sleep is important and staying healthy and fighting disease. I hope you’ll include music in your plan to stay healthy, fight disease, and live a long life. And everybody, while music is one of the anchor point fitness and disease fighting elements, I would encourage you to look at the arts in general and include them in your life. It’s not too late at our age to start a new arts related hobby. Painting, photography, building things. It’s enjoying nature, just any kind of a hobby or new interest.

The arts help to enrich your life. They’re wonderful stress reducers. They make you a more rounded and interesting person, and of course, they keep you healthy. On a future episode of the Anchor Point Podcast, we’ll continue to focus on the music element, how music can motivate and inspire you while you’re exercising. All right, everybody, I kind of teased you with this song at the beginning of this segment, so let’s listen to the entire song after all. This episode of the Anchor Point Podcast is about music today. Enjoy this music for the next couple of minutes and then I’ll be back with more of today’s episode of the Anchor Point Podcast. The musical artists are causeway and they’re singing about sort of what we’re all doing together on Anchor Point as we start this new year making some changes in our life.
